CIM Toronto Branch - 1st Annual Student "Grubstake" Networking Event
November 7, 2007

The CIM Toronto Branch held its inaugural Fall networking event "Grubstake Night" at the Toronto Board of Trade on October 17, 2008. Approximately 80 students from 12 different schools across Southern Ontario and 70 industry participants were able to partake of light refreshments and snacks while mingling and networking. Feedback from the event was very positive and we are looking forward to holding it again next year.

Thanks to our sponsors, the students were able to participate at no charge and the Branch was able to offset the travel costs for those students outside of the GTA. The CIM Toronto Branch would like to say thank you to our sponsors:

Platinum - SNC Lavalin

Gold - AMEC, Barrick Gold, Caracle Creek,

Orica Canada, PDAC, and Xstrata

Silver - Royal Nickel.

Prior to the networking event, the students participated in a networking seminar, where Larry Smith (CVRD Inco) and Rick Hutson (C.J. Stafford & Associates) gave short presentations on the value of networking, some do's and don'ts and other insights. This was followed by informal networking with industry volunteers prior to the event. The CIM Toronto Branch would also like to thank the industry volunteers for giving of their time: David Stein (Cormark Securities), Roland Horst (Royal Nickel), Bill McGuinity (Intrepid Minerals), Teresa Barrett (PDAC), Aleem Ladak (Wardrop), Ian Blakley (Scott Wilson), Terri Szego (BMO Nesbitt Burns), Phil Chang (Scott Wilson), Gord Orlikow & Todd Jackson (Korn Ferry), Terry Bottrill (Bottrill Geological Services), David Clarry (Hatch), David Joyce (SNC Lavalin), Pierre Rocque (AMEC), Blair Ferris (CJ Stafford), Elizabeth Vida (Geotrek Explorations), Emree Siaroff, Scott Bruce & Tracey Jeffs (Xstrata).

We look forward to seeing everyone next year on Thursday, October 19, 2008. Also do not forget the Student-Industry Luncheon this coming Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Toronto Board of Trade with our keynote address from Barrick Gold.
